Fragment 176-191, or Frag 176-191, is a variant part of an amino acid sequence known as G-Hormone. It contains properties of both hormones and petptides and has a molecular mass of 1817.12. The formula is C78H125N23O23S2.
Research on this compound began in the late 70s when scientists working with similar proteins were able to get a handle on their physical structure and functions. It was hypothesized in 1978 that the functionality of such proteins was linked to the configuration the same as to the informational sequence. In 1984, further research showed that Frag 176-191 was rich in proline and possessed features including high levels of proteases. It was also discovered that accessibility was the cause of alterations and binding of the proteins in certain regions.
It is not, however, connected with negative changes in the level of glucose in the blood. In addition, despite showing some properties of G-hormones, it was determined that Frag 176-191 would not cause hyperglycemia since hGH-receptors are not involved.
